My catch phrases on emotions
Vin Diesel and the top 10 points I like to make about emotions and discipleship
“Just a quart of ice cream a day.”
If you repeat yourself in my house, that is what someone is going to say back to you. Or they might say, “To get the CONFIDENCE” or “I read this book by Sidney Lumet.”
On the Showbiz Show, David Spade showed an edited series of clips of Vin Diesel doing promo for a movie. In every interview, he says the exact same phrases about how he prepared for this role, including how he gained weight for the part (by eating a quart a day of ice cream) and how he got the confidence to make movies (reading Making Movies by Sidney Lumet). The montage went viral on Ebaumsworld but has been almost completely erased from the internet. Here is one of the interviews from which clips were taken: Find Me Guilty movie promo.
These phrases have entered our lexicon at home and are shorthand for, “You’re saying the same thing over and over.”
I have done a lot of podcast interviews about emotional health and discipleship. Sometimes I worry that I am Vin Diesel-ing myself. :-)
So I thought I would make a Top-Ten list of the phrases I am most likely to say on a podcast or social media about emotions. Maybe you should make a bingo card to use the next time you hear me on a podcast.

Whoa! This is fantastic!! I'd love to hear more about #'s 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, and 10. I'm very emotional and just starting to embrace this part of myself, but I have no idea how to think clearly about any of it. Thanks for much for writing!
Well done, but speaking of repeating... I've done over 200 podcasts about Tov (factoring in some on Pivot). Repetition becomes us!
